As always excellent tribute to the plane and the naval aviators Jeff. I wish they made a decent model kit of it the Vindicator.

I will pass on this one unless there is a new one on the market. The Vindicator has so much history.

One note about a typo I saw if you don’t mind…
by the Maines of VMSB-241
The only combat engagements using the Vindicator by U.S. forces were flown by the Maines of VMSB-241 during the Battle of Midway. John Ford filmed these aircraft in color for his documentary of the battle, three screenshots are presented here. White 2 returned from the 4 June mission, but was lost with her crew CAPT Richard E. Fleming and PFC George A. Toms during the 5 June strike against the Japanese cruiser Mikuma. CAPT Fleming flew during all three of VMSB-241s missions during the battle and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions.

Your comment about the use of medical tape for field expedient repairs is quite interesting. Thank you.

It was from an interview with one of the pilots. I’ve often wondered if the material condition of the aircraft contributed to the decision to use the Vindicators for glide bombing as opposed to dive bombing.
