Truly, Brewster produced a dog.
However, the much maligned Brewster Buffalo was really a decent little fighter until it was weighed down with pilot armor, self-sealing fuel tanks, etc. Until that time, it had a pretty good record of performance.
Back in the 80’s I had the pleasure to meet a WWII USMC vet that survived combat over Midway flying Buffaloes. Interestingly, he was a pastor. 🙂 I guess he decided that he owed some payback after surviving that ordeal. 🙂

I think the Buffalo got a bad rap. There were a few pilots who found religion after the war, Mitsuo Fuchida comes to mind.

Oddly, it resembles the Curtiss SB2-C Helldiver; which earned the dubious nickname “Son of a B—- 2nd class” by pilots.

I agree. The Buccaneer isn’t unattractive, too bad its performance wasn’t up to par.
