Is “Lanakila” painted some shade of grey? If not, that’s got to be the most oxidized aluminum I’ve ever seen on an a/c in active service.

I suspect Lanakila is painted in a Synthetic Haze scheme, with the lighter “Flight Blue” shade dominating (or even re-applied, see the data block was masked off). If you’ve got a copy of Dana Bell’s Air Force Colors v2 see pages 27-31 for a discussion of the Haze paints. Complex topic, and the ETO PR aircraft were also repainted (or touched up with) the RAF PRU Blue and Azure Blue.

I was 16 then. Still having it bring back so much memories when I was building all that Monogram Models was dishing out.
