Fine Molds Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2 of Leutnant Jakob Norz in 1/72 Scale

Jakob Norz flew with Jagdgeschwader 5 over the Eismeerfront (Ice Sea Front) against the Soviets.  He was credited with his first victory, a Soviet-flown Hurricane, on 15MAY42.  He only added a few more victories to his score until 1943, after which he began to score steadily.  In March he downed an Il Shturmovik but his Messerschmitt was hit by defensive fire and Norz was obliged to set down on a frozen lake, subsequently hiking back to German lines.

He returned to action and continued to add to his score.  As Soviet airpower in the Arctic increased, so did Norz’ score.  He became known for scoring multiples in the same sortie, becoming “an ace in a day” on seven separate occasions by scoring five victories.

On 16SEP44 Norz downed a Boston but was hit by defensive fire.  He attempted to belly in his stricken aircraft, but it broke up, killing him at the age of 23.  Norz was credited with a total of 117 victories, all against the Soviets in the East.

The model depicts the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2 of Leutnant Jakob Norz of 8. /JG5 at Petsamo, Finland, June 1943.
