Hans von Hahn was credited with this first confirmed victory, an RAF Hurricane, on 22DEC39. After the Battle of France he was promoted to Gruppenkommandeur of I./JG 3 in August 1940. He survived the Battle of Britain with 5 additional victories, bringing his score to a total of 12 in the West. I./JG 3 was then deployed to the East for Operation Barbarossa, where Hahn added claims for 19 Soviet aircraft, bringing his total to 34.
