Crecy’s Classic Publications series is best known to aviation enthusiasts for their volumes on Luftwaffe aircraft.  Welcome additions to the series have been author Luigino Caliaro’s books on Italian subjects.  Reggiane Fighters (volume 38) is his fourth publication in the series, following his earlier volumes on the S.79 Sparviero (33), Macchi Fighters (36), and Fiat Fighters (37).

Italian aircraft have a distinctive aesthetic and are regarded by many to be among the most elegant designs of their time.  This book captures the evolution of the Reggiane fighters from the RE.2000 Falco (a derivative of the Seversky P-35) through the sleek Series 5 RE.2005 Sagittario.  As in previous works, this book utilizes period photos and factory promotion materials, supplemented by drawings from service manuals.  These are sharply reproduced, many in large format which allows every detail to be seen.  Supplementing this are chapters describing the camouflage and markings applied to these aircraft which includes numerous color profiles, line drawings, and a brief color walk-around section on surviving aircraft.

This book lives up to the high standards of the previous volumes and is highly recommended for modelers and aviation enthusiasts alike.  Many books in this series are regarded as the definitive references on their subjects, when the publication run sells out the price immediately escalates on the secondary market so if you would like to add this book to your library do not hesitate to get a copy while the price is still reasonable.
